Arthritis Pain

Arthritis is a joint disorder which features painful inflammation. The joints are the area of the body which two different bones meet. The main function of the joint is to allow mobility to the parts of the body which are connected through the bones. In literal terms, arthritis is the inflammation of one or various joints.

At present, there are different forms of arthritis; there are actually more than one hundred types of arthritis. These forms are different from each other. There are some that are cause by wear and tear of the cartilage like osteoarthritis while there are some which are cause from over activity of immune system like rheumatoid arthritis. Generally, arthritis is one of the most common chronic diseases in the U.S which has profound effect on work related activities of the workforce in the company.

Like back pain, which is one form of arthritis, this is the most common reason to call sick in the office and though may be quite easy for those who don’t have it, back pain like other forms of arthritis can really be debilitating.

The main cause of arthritis is varies as it largely depends on the form of the arthritis. The most common causes of arthritis may include:

  • abnormal metabolism
  • infection
  • injury
  • other unclear reasons

Typically, arthritis is classified as rheumatoid disease and these conditions may have different features, complications and prognosis depending on the individual. But all forms of arthritis have the tendency to affect different ligaments, cartilage, tendons, muscles and other body parts.

Arthritis symptoms

The symptoms of arthritis include:

  • stiffness of the joints
  • swelling
  • redness
  • tenderness

Aside from these typical symptoms, the patient may also feel lethargy, fever, weight loss, and the overall feeling of unwell.

There are symptoms which may affect the lungs, kidneys and heart.

Arthritis affects women, men, adults and even children. Accordingly, there are three hundred fifty million people are affected by arthritis to which forty million arthritis sufferers are found in the United States. It is also common notion that only adults have arthritis because a quarter of the forty million are all children.

Over twenty one million American are living with osteoarthritis while over two million Americans are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Half of those are under sixty five years of age and nearly sixty percent of the sufferers are women.
