At present, more than forty six million Americans are living with some type of arthritis. Studies show that one in five adults or twenty one percent in the U.S were diagnosed with symptoms of arthritis.

Arthritis statistics also varies accordingly to age, gender and race. Data shows that there are more than eight million people suffering from arthritis in the age group of 18-44 years of age while there are more than twenty million diagnosed with arthritis in those people that belongs to 45-64 years of age.

It is common misconception that arthritis is related to old age and accordingly, over seventeen million elderly that are diagnosed with arthritis.

In terms of gender, studies shows that women are more prone to arthritis as twenty eight million women are affected with arthritis while eighteen million men are living with arthritis.

Race specific, Non-Hispanics Black have higher number of arthritis than Hispanics. Over four million Non-Hispanics Black are affected with arthritis while there are only three million Hispanics adults who are diagnosed with arthritis.

In terms of weight, people who are over weight are found to be more affected by arthritis as studies shows that among arthritis sufferers in America, twenty one percent of them are overweight while thirty percent are found to be obese.

Accordingly, loosing weight as much as eleven pounds can reduce the risk of osteoarthritis in among women.

Meanwhile, the rates of physical activity among adults who are living with arthritis are lesser than those who do not have the symptoms of arthritis.

Most of those adults who are living with the arthritis do not engage in any physical activity like exercises compared to those who are not diagnose with arthritis.

For older patients, it is found out that participating in any physical activity like exercises can reduce the risk of disability by around forty percent.

Arthritis also affects the workplace as statistics shows that those people that fall the age of eighteen to sixty years of age have reported that they have been affected with arthritis related limitation. Approximately, one in every three adults was affected with arthritis that had later affected their work.

Arthritis is also one of the leading causes of disability in the U.S as patients’ reports that they experience limitations of their movements.

Most adults with arthritis also reported that they experience limitations on their other routine activities like walking, bending, climbing stairs and attending social functions.

Six million arthritis sufferers said that they have reduced ¼ mile of walking since they were diagnosed with arthritis while around seven million adults observed that they have limitations on their bending and kneeling.

In addition, almost five adults had reported that climbing stairs are have also become limited because of arthritis while more than two million adults said that attending social functions like parties where also affected by arthritis.
